Scottish sporting stars take Extreme E car for a spin
Hoy, a six-time Olympic gold medallist, and Grant, who debuted in the brand-new all-female F1 Academy racing championship last month, put the Extreme E car through its paces on the Hydro X Prix course, which will take place in the former open-cast Glenmuckloch mine in Dumfries and Galloway.
Grant was announced yesterday as a FIA Girls on Track Ambassador and spent time hosting a group of 80 school girls, fully immersing herself in the Extreme E experience at her home event.
Upon getting behind the wheel of an Extreme E car for the first time, Grant said: “Driving the ODYSSEY 21 today was incredible. It was absolutely brilliant and a very different experience for me - off-roading – I’m used to tarmac so it was amazing.
“I was nervous for the jump, but after I did it I wanted to do it five more times! It means a lot to me to be an ambassador for Girls on Track and I’m hoping that I can help more girls into the sport and show them what they can.”
The former coal mine will be transformed into a Pumped Storage Hydropower (PSH) plant and wind farm after the Hydro X Prix this weekend (13-14 May), aligned with Extreme E’s focus on renewable energy solutions.
The racing action, and further details about the Legacy Programme in Scotland, will be best viewed live on STV and ITV, in the UK from 1300-1500 BST, over both Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May. Outside of the UK, please visit here for broadcaster details.
