Multiple category nominations for Extreme E in European Sponsorship Association Awards

Fully electric off-road motorsport series, Extreme E, is delighted to announce that it has been nominated in the following four categories in this year’s prestigious European Sponsorship Association (ESA) Awards:

  • Event of the Year – Extreme E has been nominated for its delivery of the Arctic X Prix in Greenland in September 2021. Beamed live from the edge of the Russell Glacier, the world-first race event was considered to have delivered on all key objectives, with a particular focus on audience engagement.

  • Best Use of ESG and Purpose-led sponsorship (with Allianz). Extreme E and its insurance partner Allianz are nominated for the best sport Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) purpose-led partnership that inspires audiences by championing a cause and campaigning for positive change.

  • Sport Sponsorship €1M+ (Continental Tires). Nominated for demonstrating a successful sponsorship in sport, Extreme E and its founding partner Continental Tires are one of motorsport’s most pioneering partnerships. In addition, the collaboration between the two is a perfect example of a major manufacturer adapting to match a purpose-driven mission.

The European Sponsorship Association (ESA) is a not-for-profit membership association whose mission is to inspire, unite and grow a welcoming and diverse sponsorship industry. ESA does this through education, guidance, representation, the recognition of excellence and the sharing of best practice and performance.

ESA’s reach encompasses all types of sponsorship activity including sport, broadcast, education, arts and culture, to environment and the community. Its members include sponsors, rights holders, agencies, professional advisors and suppliers.

Extreme E has only just completed its second season of racing, but the series has already been hailed as a poster child for environmental sporting entertainment. Racing in remote locations damaged by climate change or human interference, the electric off-road championship maximises awareness around critical issues, whilst minimising the environmental impact through its successful legacy programmes.

Ali Russell, Chief Marketing Officer at Extreme E said, “For Extreme E and three of our incredible partners, Vodafone, Allianz and Continental to be nominated for four ESA awards is a hugely exciting moment for us.  We could not have achieved this without the immense hard work and innovation that they put in to ensure that our collaborations are dynamic, sustainable and impactful both on and off the racetrack.

“Extreme E is so much more than a race championship - the series was essentially borne out of the global climate crisis - and our mission is the use of a sport in raising awareness of the serious issues we are all facing, as well as the solutions that we can employ to help reverse them.”

Winners of the ESA Awards will be announced at The Brewery in London on 9 March 2023 and presented by Nigel Owens MBE.
