Zenith unveils all new DEFY Extreme E 'Energy X Prix' chronograph ahead of Season 2 finale
The DEFY Extreme E ‘Energy X Prix’ is made from carbon fibre and titanium, with striking purple accents that evoke streaks of lightning in a stormy sky. The limited edition model - only 20 will be produced - is not only Zenith’s lightest, but is also its most robust 1/100th of a second chronograph and is designed to withstand the harshest environments in the world’s most remote destinations.
Following eight months, three continents and a series of breathtaking races in 2022, Extreme E’s much anticipated Season 2 showdown takes place this weekend at the seaside resort of Punta del Este in Uruguay.
In line with Extreme E’s trailblazing focus on decarbonisation, Uruguay is also leading the way when it comes to renewable energy production and electrification. This relatively small but progressive South American country already generates over 98% of its electricity from renewable sources, primarily wind and hydropower.
Sustainability is at the forefront of ZENITH and Extreme E’s partnership and as such, the DEFY Extreme E ‘Energy X Prix’ is equipped with a rubber strap which is infused with materials of upcycled Continental CrossContact tyres that were used in the championship’s first season in 2021.
The lid of the watch box has a coating made from E-grip recycled tyres, while the plate covering is made from parts of an Extreme E racing tarpaulin – all elements which also further connect the wearer with the heart of the sport-for-purpose championship.
Rugged in form and function, Zenith’s DEFY Extreme E ‘Energy X Prix’ has been tried and tested on Extreme E’s off-road courses. It is crafted in lightweight, durable and visually striking carbon fibre.
Angular in shape, the DEFY Extreme E ‘Energy X Prix’ is further emphasised by the contrasting microblasted titanium pusher protectors and twelve-sided bezel. The watch is delivered with two additional straps in black rubber and black Velcro, which can be easily swapped without any tools.
