Extreme E named as multiple category finalists in prestigious 2022 Sport Industry awards
Ground-breaking motorsport series Extreme E, along with partners Aurora Media Worldwide, are delighted to have been shortlisted as a finalist for three categories in this year’s coveted Sport Industry Awards.
The Sport Industry Awards, which take place on Thursday 12 May 2022 at Evolution London, includes contenders from the highest echelons of the global sports industry and celebrates the immense work carried out across the sector, including delivering world-leading events, driving social change, and producing campaigns with ingenious creative spark.
Extreme E embarks on its highly anticipated second season this month, starting in NEOM, Saudi Arabia, next weekend (19-20 February). As a sport that is built around social purpose, but with racing at its core, Extreme E utilises its platform to promote electrification, sustainability and gender equality.
Racing in remote locations damaged by climate change or human interference, the series aims to maximise awareness around these critical issues, whilst minimising the environmental impact. The series has recently published its Season 1 Sustainabilty Report in conjunction with official innovation partner EY, which outlines the details of the series’ journey to becoming net zero by the end of its first season.
Working in collaboration with Aurora, the electric off-road series has been shortlisted for Sport Industry’s Environmental Sustainability Award – new for 2022, this award recognises organisations that are delivering environmental benefits through sport. In addition, the sport for purpose series is also in the running for prestigious honours in both the Cutting Edge and Sport Organisation of the Year awards.
Ali Russell, Chief Marketing Officer at Extreme E, said, “We are beyond delighted to have reached the list of finalists alongside our partners Aurora Media Worldwide for Sport Industry honours in three separate categories.
“Nothing beats recognition by such an esteemed panel for the immense hard work that we at Extreme E, our teams and partners have all done in highlighting environmental issues, promoting sustainability and gender equality, whilst at the same time bringing world class sporting entertainment to millions of viewers worldwide.”
James Pearce, Partnerships Director at Aurora Media Worldwide, said: "We have been on an incredible journey with Extreme E. The ambition for the series was monumental from the start and it is a real privilege for us to share the successes with Ali and his incredible team. We are thrilled to have been nominated in these specific categories for the Sports Industry Awards and to sit alongside such distinguished competition.
"This has been a huge team effort and thanks must go to Extreme E for putting their trust in us and to our world class partners – North One Television, NEP Group, Interstate Creative Partners and Al Kamel Systems."
Extreme E is different to traditional sports as there are no spectators present. This places greater emphasis on the media and content products to engage the consumer. Working with Aurora Media Worldwide and other creative partners, Extreme E delivers a graphical storytelling concept that combines sport and scientific stories to highlight the planet's situation.
Building on the success of its debut year in 2021, Extreme E Season 2 ‘The Race For the Planet’ promises to captivate on and off track on a whole new level, whilst delivering on its overall purpose to tackle climate change through sport, starting with the Desert X Prix in Neom, Saudi Arabia, 19-20 February.
