Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) Joins Extreme E

London, 29 September, 2025: Extreme E and FIA Extreme H are proud to welcome Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) to the paddock, along with the 2023 Extreme E Championship winning Swedish duo Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky behind the wheel.
Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) is one of the most successful independent racing teams in global motorsport. Founded in 1989 in Arvika, Sweden, by former racing driver Tommy Krisofferson. The team has competed across an impressive range of disciplines, including Touring cars, Porsche Carrera Cup and Rallycross. Over three decades, KMS has established itself as a benchmark for professionalism, adaptability and winning pedigree.
Fronted by FIA World Rallycross’ most decorated driver, eight-time world champion, Johan Krisoffersson, KMS has rewritten the record books. The team was the first to claim victories in both the electric and renewable-fuel eras of World RX, demonstrating its ability to combine performance with the demands of modern sustainable racing. Since 2022, KMS has entered its own independent team with its own cars, and has won the Teams’ Championship four seasons in a row.
Now KMS is expanding its horizons to Extreme E and FIA Extreme H, with drivers Johan Krisoffersson and Mikaela Ahlin-Kottuslinsky reuniting to take their unrivalled racing expertise into new environments. With a proven track record of success and commitment to pushing boundaries, KMS are ready to embrace the challenges of electric and hydrogen-powered racing on the world stage.
Nils Andersson, Team Manager of Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS), said: “A new challenge is always stimulating. We are used to handling new situations and have a qualified group to manage it. We want to be where the action is, to see if it opens new doors for the future, says team manager Nils Andersson.
“There will be a few different segments: a special stage, similar to rally; a head-to-head between the teams; and finally, a multi-car race, like in rallycross, similar to how it has been previously in Extreme E.”
Kristoffersson is one of world motorsport’s most successful drivers, with a record eight FIA World Rallycross championships to his name – his 2018 triumph coming after taking an unprecedented 11 out of 1 event wins that season – 48 victories from 103 starts.
Outside of rallycross, Kristoffersson also has titles in the international Superstars Series, the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship and a class with at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. He is Extreme E’s only two-time champion and leads the all-time wins chart with nine.
Johan Kristoffersson, driver for KMS Motorsport, said: “It will be fun to race with Mikaela again. It's been a long time now. The World Cup title in Extreme H is what attracts me the most. But of course it's difficult and a bit of a gamble since it's o one off competition. If you are unlucky it’s over.
“I've only seen the Extreme H cars once, in Scotland, but I don't know anything about how they are to drive. But I think it could be good. They're probably not that different from the Extreme E cars. The sand in Saudi Arabia is not usually my and Mikaela's favorite, but you just have to prepare yourself and do your very best, to see if it works out.”
Like Kristoffersson, Ahlin-Kottulinsky has enjoyed a successful career across a range of disciplines with wins in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup, TCR Scandinavia Touring Car Championship, Nitrocross's Side-by-Side category, and the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia.
She also won Season 3 of Extreme E with Kristoffersson, and is one of the series’ most-successful female participants with eight round victories to her name.
Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky, driver for KMS Motorsport, said: “It will be exciting to get into the Extreme E car again. It's been a while, so it will be fun. Of course, it will be great to drive with Johan again, who I have competed with and won the Extreme E series with before. Then it's fun to do this with KMS as well. I have competed with KMS before as part of Team E and then also at the World RX event in Hong Kong. It will be nice to be back with that group of people.
“Then it's exciting to test the new car. It will be intense test days there trying to understand it and understand the driving style to become fast. Then, of course, when you enter a competition you always want to win. That's just how it is. But it's also an incredibly tough starting field, and it’s new conditions with the new car and so on. We have to work hard to get as much info as possible in as short a time as possible and perform well.”
James Taylor, Chief Championship Officer, Extreme E and Extreme H, said: “Kristoffersson Motorsport joining both Extreme E and Extreme H is a huge moment for us. KMS is a multiple FIA World Rallycross winning team and sets the benchmark in side by side racing with their professionalism, innovation, and unrivalled success.
“To have Johan Kristoffersson, the greatest Rallycross driver of all time, and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky back together, brings instant credibility and excitement as we launch this new era.
“With their experience and the pedigree of KMS behind them, they will no doubt be among the teams to beat when we head to Qiddiya in October.”
Action will begin with a ‘Final Lap’ Extreme E race taking place from Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October 2025, providing an official farewell to the previous championship, before the official start of Extreme H on Thursday 9th through to Saturday 11th October 2025.
Qiddiya City is the world’s first city built entirely for play, where entertainment, sport, and culture converge. The race will take place with the dramatic backdrop of the Tuwaiq Mountains, close to the site which is currently undergoing transformation to become a world-leading motorsport venue.
The FIA Extreme H World Cup Presented by PIF will make history as the first international race event to use hydrogen-powered vehicles. Marking a new future for motorsport, defined by cutting-edge technology and bold ambition.
Further details on the event will be revealed over the coming days as the event countdown continues at pace.
